Happy Birthday Nathan

Friday the 28th was Nathan's 32nd birthday. We wanted to do something fun to celebrate, so we arranged for Nathan's parents to babysit and headed to Sun Valley, Idaho. Sun Valley has a similar feel to Park City, or Jackson Hole. It is a resort town and filled with a variety of people from the very rich, to the poor ski bum. We got their in the evening, so we found a place called the Cellar Pub and tried out their pub food. I had the most delicious shrimp tacos with fresh salsa made daily by a Mexican guy who works there. It was great.
Our hotel was in a great location. It was at the base of the River Run Ski Resort and our room had a balcony with a great view of the mountain. Even though our hotel was a little run down, it was still cute because it was modeled after a Swiss Chalet.

On Saturday, we went to the Sun Valley Lodge and walked around the grounds. They are perfectly groomed and it really did feel like we were stepping into a little German town. Inside the lodge is a wall of fame of people who had stayed there in the past. It had dozens of black and white photos of famous people. Everyone from Clark Gable to Marilyn Monroe were there. I think my favorite was one of Lucille Ball with Desi Jr. and little Lucie all decked out in their snow gear. They were so adorable.

After our visit to the Sun Valley Lodge, we headed over to the River Run Resort and took the tram to the top. The elevation was about 9100 feet and the view was spectacular. We hiked around and enjoyed the scenery.

On our way home we stopped at Craters of the Moon, which is a National Monument and preserve. It is an area with past volcanic activity and fissures in the earths crust that have seeped lava out over miles and miles. It is truly like being on a different planet and the landscape looks very foreign. It is amazing that flowers and plants can still grow with such limited water. It was very interesting.
It was so fun to get away with just Nathan and spend some time together. Nathan joked that we talked more in that one day without kids than we have in the last month. I think he is right! I hope he had a great birthday.

This last picture is outside of my in-laws home in the country at sunset. The sunsets here are so beautiful, especially when they are cutting grain. It's times like this that I love living in Idaho (but don't tell Nathan)!

I didn't realize Sun Valley was so beautiful! I'm glad you two were able to get away together.

Kim and Andy Baggs were vacationing there the same time as you were! That would have been if y'all had bumped in to each other.
