One week old today!

Wow! How time flies. I can't believe that Alex is already one week old. She has had a very eventful week though. When we left the hospital her pediatrician told me her bilirubin count was a little elevated and wanted to have it checked on Monday. So, Monday morning when it was 3 degrees outside, I had to take our little baby out in the cold to have her heel poked at the hospital. Her bilirubin count had gone really high and she had lost a lot of weight in just a matter of days, so her doctor decided to admit her to the hospital for some phototherapy and IV fluids. The nurses had to try three times to get an IV in her little hand. It was horrible watching her cry and not be able to comfort her.

Once she was under the lights, Alex just laid there like she was on the beach getting a tan. She had a blindfold over her eyes to protect them from the lights.

The lights brought her bili count down really fast and then we were able to take her out of her isolet and hold her.

This is quickly becoming Alex's favorite place to sleep. She already has Nathan wrapped around her little finger. I'm sure this doesn't come as a surprise to anyone.

We were able to bring her home on Tuesday evening. She was in the hospital for only 24 hours but it seemed like forever to us. We just wanted to be at home cuddling her. She is doing much better and is gaining weight. She is a good baby and sleeps well at night by newborn standards. She usually goes 3-4 hours without waking up. It has only been a few nights since we have been home from the hospital, so lets hope this is a trend that continues.

Alex loves her bouncy chair and is content to sit in it so Mom can get some things done around the house. Her Dad however, is not content to let her sit there too long without holding her.

She looks so peaceful when she is sleeping and sometimes smiles. I know people say it is just gas, but my Grandma tells me it is because she sees angels.

(My friend Ann says they smile because they are thinking about Jesus. Pretty cute, no matter what it is!)
